the Weekly Framework: on time travel and the power of small actions

Friends! 💖 About a week ago, I stumbled across something on the interwebs that broke my brain:

🤯🤯🤯

This continues to blow my mind in the most incredible way, because it feels entirely true. In the movies, time travelers are reluctant to so much as nod to anyone in the past for fear that it will literally change the course of that person’s life. Yet here, in the present, we have dozens of those tiny interactions every week without imagining that anything will come of them.

Of course, the point isn’t that our actions necessarily will have an effect, but that they always could. So, this week, let’s remember the potential of each small, seemingly insignificant choice to create remarkable ripple effects in our own lives and the lives of those we encounter.

Questions this week:

  • Reflection: How was last week? Did you have any miracles? What are you most proud of yourself for?

  • This week: What does this week hold? What do you need to cross off your list? When are you going to do that work?

  • Small actions for ourselves: Give some thought to where your current habits (good or bad) are leading you. What choices could you make that might—over time, eventually, perhaps—put your life on a different course? Maybe you want to work on using kinder language with yourself, respecting your own boundaries, knocking out small tasks right away instead of putting them off, practicing gratitude, or strengthening your relationships by reaching out to friends more often.

  • Small actions out in the world: How do you generally interact with the world around you? Are you leaving things better than you found them, or are you maybe stinking things up a little more often than you’d like? Look for opportunities this week to brighten your corner of the world just a fraction—maybe by saying hello to people you pass, waving someone ahead of you in traffic, picking up trash when you’re out walking, or genuinely complimenting someone every day.

  • Self-care: Is there anything future you might wish past you had done to take better care of yourself? If so, try to do it (or at least schedule it) this week.

Be the change you want to see in the world this week, friends 💖
